Aromatherapist, Herbalist, Author
DAY 2
17/2/24
Living in the San Francisco Bay area in 1984, Ron Guba had a strong interest in natural medicine and mind/body healing practices.
He happened upon Robert Tisserand’s first book, the Art of Aromatherapy and became very attracted to the use of essential oils as a healing modality. Then a friend knew of a gentleman by the name of Kurt Schnaubelt and of his interest in essential oils.
Meeting Kurt and doing his original aromatherapy course, Ron was captivated by the large variety of essential oils and the ‘good science’ of their healing benefits in French aromatherapy practice, especially the work of Pierre Franchomme and Dr. Daniel Pénoël.
Daniel Pénoël had moved his family to Australia, to practice as a naturopathic physician, most especially using essential oils as his main ‘healing tools’.
Ron looked at the possibility of moving to Australia, to meet with Dr. Pénoël, to perhaps begin an aromatherapy practice and business, and more. In early 1986, Ron packed his bags and landed in Melbourne, Australia.
Ron met up with Daniel Pénoël and his family. He helped convince Daniel to move to Melbourne. He worked with Daniel and studied ‘Aromatic Medicine’ over the next year and a half, until Daniel and his family moved back to southern France.
Ron met up with Daniel and Pierre Franchomme at various times in France and England, being awarded his ‘Certificate of Aromatherapy – Phyto-aromatherapy’ from Pierre Franchomme’s Collège d’Initiation aux Plantes Médicinales in 1987.
Ron then began his aromatherapy career. He founded the essential oil company, Essential Therapeutics, in 1988, to offer the first range of real ‘genuine and authentic’ essential oils and the first carbon dioxide extracts in Australia.
Ron also started The Centre for Aromatic Medicine at this time to offer training in Aromatherapy and the practice of Aromatic Medicine. He began teaching the first Diploma courses in Aromatherapy and Aromatic Medicine.
Throughout the 1990’s and into the new century, Ron continued to expand the essential oil business, teach courses and offered presentations internationally at numerous Aromatherapy and Complementary Medicine conferences.
He also hosted speakers such as Daniel Pénoël, Gabriel Mojay and Rhiannon Lewis (with dear Deby Atterby) to present in Australia.
With real pleasure Ron has been able to meet and liaise over the years with many of the excellent people on Gergely Hollódi’s Aromatic Hologram list. Thank you Gergely and all.
Ron’s essential oil company, Essential Therapeutics, was sold to Australian Botanical Products in 1998, where he became the brand, marketing, education (countless seminars), product development manager and on to 2017.
Our Australian education department approved an Advanced Diploma in Aromatic Medicine, a world first, in 2011. After many years of promoting Aromatic Medicine, it was inspiring to see an actual approved training course offered. Ron began teaching part of the specific Aromatic Medicine modules starting in 2011.
Ron moved on from Australian Botanical Products in 2013. He now manages CAM Consulting, as a research & development consultant for a range of new Aromatherapy products and natural/organic therapeutic and skin care products.
And Ron continues to teach whenever he can…
