DAY 1

16/2/24

Jeanne Rose is respected for her long career as an herbalist, author, aromatherapist, perfumer, educator and for her public work on behalf of natural aromatics and healing. In 2011, she was awarded ‘Best Perfumer Lifetime Achievement Award’. She is a valued Associate member of the Natural Perfumers Guild,  and she was the Brave New Soul’ in the 1960s when her studies of herbalism and natural healing resulted in one of America's seminal herbal books.  Herbs and Things was her first book about using herbs and aromatic plants for healing and health. Then came The Herbal Body Book, detailing the formulas and treatments she invented for the first newage organic skincare company, New Age Creations, and later her books on aromatic therapy. In total, 25 books have been published including Aromatherapy Treatments, encompassing 40 years of experience, study, and application. This is about consciously using nature’s green & aromatic plants and living an environmental healthy and conscious life in the city or country; how to treat holistically using a complete treatment program that Incorporates diet, supplements, herbs, aromatherapy, hydrosols, scent, emotional tools and more. Essential oils work well with herbs and the trick is finding out when, and how, to use both in harmony.

Jeanne also found the first books that used the word aromatherapy and was the first to have translated Gattefossé Aromatherapie. Jeanne founded The Aromatic Plant Project, in 1990, as an educational organization, whose mission was to support local and organic production of aromatic plants; to provide resources for growers and distillers; to ensure high quality aromatherapy products and to educate consumers as to the appropriate and beneficial uses of these aromatic products.

Her work with distilling aromatic and healing plants and holding classes to educate the public on this art have combined to create a place for her in American history, because she was the first in modern times to accomplish such projects.  She led the way for many to take up distilling, reviving a lost fragrant skill and adding to our artisan natural techniques for healing and perfumeries.  Jeanne crisscrossed the country from Washington to Martha’s Vineyard to Key West, and back, for 30 years, teaching many weekend courses, from herbalism to natural perfumery to aromatherapy to distillation, and taught in her San Francisco home and garden giving seminars and workshops on these subjects from 1969 to 2019.

Jeanne Rose has a love affair with ‘all things herbal and aromatic’ and posts a twice month blog on a particular plant and its odor. JeanneRose-blog.com is about the art and uses of herbs and aromatics, bathing and Spa care, essential oils, and their history. Each addition discusses the subject in detail; the history, background, naming, chemistry, properties, and uses of each of the named herbs and oils and personal use called Tomato Tales, and maybe even a limerick or two. Jeanne’s mission statement is “Cultivating today for a fragrant tomorrow”.
