PROF. DIETRICH WABNER

Professor of Chemistry

1935 - 2019

Dietrich Wabner born 1935 in Breslau/Niederschlesien, Poland. He studied Medicine, but he switched to Chemistry because he found this subject more interesting, exciting, and challenging. He completed his studies with a doctorate and worked as a Professor for Chemistry at the Technical University Munich. His great passion was Plant Chemistry. He was particularly fond of Rose oils, examining and characterizing them.

He was an honorary member of the International Federation of Aromatherapist (IFA) London. As head of N.O.R.A (Natural Oils Research Association) he fought for the preservation of essential oils in Europe.

Professor Wabner‘s lectures at the Medical Faculty of the Technical University Munich, his worldwide lectures, seminars, and workshops on various aromatherapy topics are legendary. His way of conveying complex knowledge, with a lot of humour and empathy, is unmatched. His ability to inspire people about the greatness of plants and essential oils was fascinating. His joy in imparting knowledge to people and his humility touched many people. Everyone benefited from his immense knowledge, which he shared without reservation. People also sensed his joy in teaching.

In addition to his Knowledge and his charisma, he was very approachable. In addition to all his activities, he still found time and energy to write important books. He wrote one of the most comprehensive reference books about Aromatherapy - Aromatherapy, Grundlagen- Wirkprinzipien-Praxis, as well as the reference book Taschenlexikon der Aromatherapie - Die etherischen Öle, Hydrolate und Trägeröle (Pocket encyclopedia of aromatherapy - essential oils, hydrosols and carrier oils). Together with his former student Stefan Theierl, he wrote the outstanding book Klinikhandbuch Aromatherapie, Pflege-Therapie-Prävention.

After all he was founder and managing director of the company WADI Etherische Öle. Wadi continues to produce outstanding aromatherapy blends to this day. Long-term friends and colleagues maintain his work at WADI. His strength, work ethic, honesty, honourability, integrity are the NorthStar of WADI.

Professor Wabner was, until old age, every day in his company. Highly valued and adored by his employees. He died on 14, February 2019.
