Dietrich Gümbel was born in 1943 in Königsberg, East Prussia, Baltic Sea, today called Kaliningrad, Russia. He studied biology and geography at the University of Bonn, Germany. After his state examination he worked as a water ecologist at the Max Planck Institute for the limnology department. In 1974, he earned the doctorate degree at the University of Giessen (Germany).
For the first time he established anatomical, biological and physiological relationships between plants and humans by comparing its organ functions. This represents a key to Aromatherapy practice as stimulation of inner organs and the skin for healthy functions through essential oils.
His motto: “Don’t fight illness – strengthen health”.
Based on scientific studies, as a pioneering biologist, Dietrich explains the synergistic effects of herbal essences, colours, tones and gemstones through simultaneous sensory stimulation in his latest book Healing through the Senses – Sensing the Spiritual World (2019). He identifies not five – but seven – sensory organs linking the creating spiritual world with the created physical world. Moreover, he outlines how all of the senses are energetically connected and correspond to inner organs and endocrine glands. When all stimuli are applied in resonance with the client’s vitality, they catalyze a healing process to rebalance and achieve higher awareness and, thus, a sense of well-being. Over two decades, Dietrich's research on the relation of colours and tones as COSMO-THERAPY evolved into COSMO-MUSIC. This innovative music is based on the ‘rainbow scale’ also corresponding to the seven senses and inner organs. Further, he frames the human dentition as a musical paradigm vis à vis the formation and sequence of the teeth. Finally, he outlines a ‘Cosmocentric Worldview’ centred in the human heart. He summarizes his findings in the motto: ‘Perceiving the extrasensory through the senses is the key to the New World’.
Dr Gümbel lives in Alsace (France) giving seminars and teaching globally Herbal-Essence-Therapy and Cosmotherapy.
