Aromatherapist, Educator,
Author and Astrologer
DAY 2
17/2/24
Ayako studied at the London School of Aromatherapy (LSA) in 1992, in the final class taught by Patricia Davis. After becoming an IFA-registered aromatherapist, she worked at a hospital (neurology department), a hotel spa and as a lecturer in several aromatherapy and herbal companies in Tokyo. She then started London School of Aromatherapy Japan, a franchise of LSA, in 1997. At that time, as there were no professional training schools in Japan, LSA Japan was one of the first schools for professional aromatherapists. LSA Japan is now an IFA-registered independent school with more French-influenced and updated curriculum. It will celebrate its 26th anniversary this year with more than 1,000 of graduates.
She has translated 12 books into Japanese in the aromatherapy field, e.g. "Advanced Aromatherapy" and “The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils” by Kurt Schnaubelt, several books by Nelly Grosjean, “Subtle Aromatherapy” and “Astrological Aromatherapy” by Patricia Davis, and “Petra” by Wanda Sellar, among others. In translating these books, she has acquired a great deal of knowledge from these authors and has also developed rewarding relationships with them. She has also written several books: Aromatic Alchemy, Aromatic Astrology and 150 Essential Oils for Aromatherapy are her major works.
Ayako has travelled the world on field trips to visit organic farms and distillers at over 20 sites, including Oman, Egypt, Madagascar, Indonesia, Reunion island, Costa Rica and several European counties, gaining much precious knowledge at the production sites. She has been residing in Sonoma County in northern California since 2020, in a house with one acre of land on which to cultivate aromatic plants.
She currently teaches the many aspects of essential oils in a PEOT (professional Essential Oil Therapy) course, which is an 18-month IFA-registered course. She also teaches natural perfumery, including natural isolates (not for aromatherapy, of course), for fragrance designs. This is also a relatively new and popular field in Japan.
Astrology is another aspect of her work, as trained by Wanda Sellar and the School of Traditional Astrology in the UK. The conjunction of aromatherapy and astrology is very interesting and also creates popular sessions for her clients. After completing the reading of their chart and answering any questions, she creates a personal essential oil blend for each client to enhance their inner resources and compensate for their elemental needs.
Current new projects include designing treatment oils for an international spa company, editorial supervision of a fragrance book for children, planning trips to Oman and south France with her students, and developing her own garden.
Aromatherapy and essential oils have been strong influences in the development of her life, and she hopes for the same beneficial effects for her students.
